After Kathy’s family lived in the arctic region of Fairbanks for five years, they moved to Juneau in Alaska’s SE rain forest. Little House in the Rain Forest is a continuation of The Little House in the Arctic. Like Little House in the Arctic, this book is full of unbelievable adventures and drama. It includes 12 full fintage color pages also.

Alaska’s Southeast temperate rain forest is quite a contrast to the Arctic interior where Kathy’s family lived five years.  Moving to Juneau from Fairbanks is almost like moving to another country because of all the differences in topography, native tribes, and weather.  For instance, in Fairbanks Kathy’s family experienced subzero temperatures of more than 60 below zero.  Juneau never has such temperatures, but the winds blowing across the glaciers make it feel just as cold.  And, in Alaska’s interior it’s dry and cold; while in the Southeast rain forest it’s wet and cold.  In both places, though, the summers are short, but brilliant.  Each area has a plethora of spectacular wildlife as well as wildflowers.
